Letis mycerina (Cramer, 1777)

 

Synonyms: Feigeria mycerina, Letis nycteis, Letis fusa, Letis atricolor

 

 

Letis mycerina occurs in the Neotropics from south Mexico to Brazil, and in the Greater and Lesser Antilles. It is dark brown, with lighter lines and spots. This owlet moth is usually found in moist closed-canopy tropical forests, where it often flies in dark ravines during the day. The flight is strong and erratic; perched L. mycerina blends well with the background of dry leaves and ferns. The larva feeds on leaves of Inga spp., and perhaps other Fabaceae.
